GCSRW presents Women’s Leadership Summit 2020 with the theme,“I AM Her”(Solomon 4:7)
Nashville, Tennessee: Along with leaders across the church, the General Secretaries of the boards and agencies of The United Methodist Church mark this moment as a time to recommit to urgent action to dismantle racism in the United States and in the church.
Due to concerns related to COVID-19 coronavirus, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Women’s Leadership Summit.
Roschino, Russia— The General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) co-sponsored the first women’s retreat for clergywomen and laywomen in the Eurasia Episcopal Area from October 28th-November 1st, 2019.
Chicago— The board of directors of the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) met July 24-26, 2019, at First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple in Chicago, IL. This was the last face-to-face meeting of the quadrennium before General Conference meets in Minneapolis, MN on May 5-15, 2020. The board of directors finalized and approved legislation that will be submitted by GCSRW to the General Conference, and also celebrated the work that has been completed by the Commission.
Atlanta— The board of directors of the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) met March 14-16, 2019, at the General Board of Global Ministries’ offices in Atlanta, GA. Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson of the North Georgia Annual Conference preached from Hebrews 13: 1-18 during the meeting’s opening worship. She urged the board to go outside the walls of the church, their communities and into those challenging, difficult spaces that are often overlooked in an effort to share the gospel with others. The board of directors was blessed to have Marcus Briggs-Cloud of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Annual Conference serve as the worship leader for their morning worship services.
Chicago—The General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) has developed new sexual ethics resources to be utilized by annual conferences and local churches to address sexual misconduct and harassment. All resources are available online and are free to download off of the gcsrw.org and umsexualethics.org websites.
CHICAGO— The General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) has named The Rev. Pamela Pirtle of the Northern Illinois Conference Director of Leadership Development and Accountability. She is responsible for supporting annual conference COSROWs, providing resources and education for the full inclusion on women and overseeing monitoring functions on behalf of the agency.
Chicago— The board of directors of the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) met September 13-15, 2018, at First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple. The board was led in worship by Bishop Laurie Haller of the Iowa Annual Conference. Bishop Haller preached from Mark 5: 21-43, pointing to how the board should emulate the faith demonstrated by the hemorrhaging woman and Jarius, the father of the deceased girl, in their work. She challenged GCSRW and The United Methodist Church to get up and continue being courageous witnesses, doing the work faithfully in front of them.
Over the recent weeks and months, and continuing on a seemingly daily basis, the media have been saturated with stories of persons coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct perpetrated by individuals in positions of power and authority.
